Description

Yes, have to admit this image has a lot of flaws. But there´s a sort of social comment in it that I´ve been trying to express for some time and I´m more or less satisfied with final results. Anyhow, I´d like to know what thoughts, what feelings this image provokes on you. Want some clues? One, this is not about slavery; two, the underwater image is an aerial shot from the Katrina catastrophe. Thanks

edited for clarification! i have a lot of reactions, but none of them are very nice. the picture itself is lovely, sad and well done, and effectively stirs up emotions about what i feel is an absolutely shameful tragedy that continues to afflict the people of New Orleans.

Not sure what to think when I view this picture. The only thing that comes to mind is that another catastrophe may be on it's way if Barack Hussein Obama becomes the president of the USA. Great image though.

Interesting image. Really makes you think. If I were to guess what you're trying to say here it's that the people of New Orleans didn't have a voice in Washington when it came to getting aid (money) after Katrina. Just a guess mind you. Great provocative picture!

You often challenge us to say what we see, and though art is always subjective, I appreciate the chance to try and communicate what I feel. First and foremost it's a great image. I don't see any flaws that you mention. New Orleans is one of my favorite American cities, and it shocked many of us that so much was lost. I see the jazz singer drowning, his hands tied by money. Art has a way of healing, though. Even those who are misguided and full of greed, hate, ineptitude, and anger are affected to some degree by beautiful music. At least I hope so. Despite the tragedy, I see hope in the lighting you used. To me, this is like a prayer.

Jazz, of course, is the soul of New Orleans (and New Orleans an intrinsic part of the history of Jazz). So what I see here is music drowning, beauty lost to money, greed and human selfishness. I can almost hear the beautiful wail of this Jazz singer, calling out to everything that was lost. Beautiful!
