Description

Mornin' All *S* This was my entry in the Halloween Carnival Of Evil contest....it got 3rd place :o) Big Congrats to all the winners ! Although the accompanying pic isn't Egyptian at all, I thought it depicted the essence of the story Hope you enjoy ! Have a great Saturday *S* ~ Love & Hugs ~ * Mina * I've always been fascinated with ancient Egyptian culture and myths and some of them, I have to admit, are pretty darn creepy ! So turn up the lights, lock all the doors, get comfy and prepare to be scared !!! This is definitely not a tale for the faint of heart. . . Wishing everyone a spooktacular Halloween...mwhahahaaaaa * * * The Eater Of Hearts Seshat knew she should have killed him too. One can never fully trust servants these days. They were both sweating and tired now. Dragging the corpulent body of her husband was no easy task, even though her servant Hotep was a giant of a man himself. Oh well, if needs be she would slip him a deadly potion now and not wait. Servants were plentiful and easy to come by. No great loss. Snickering quietly to herself, she remembered that old saying about dead men tell no tales and this one will never talk, that's for sure. Nothing will get in my way now, she thought, a smile of smug satisfaction crossing her beautiful crimson lips. She and her beloved Lord Ramses would finally be together now that this old crocodile would soon become jackal fodder. How she hated the sight of him ! Betrothed at an early age, this marriage had been forced on her, her youth taken and spent on this despised creature. Snapping back from her reverie to the job at hand, she saw Hotep had just about gotten the old goat completed buried, his back invitingly turned towards her. Now's as good a time as any. Forget the poison ! One moment of courage and it's done ! Slipping her dagger quietly out of its sheath, she plunged that cold blade deep in his ribs. Falling neatly into the almost completed grave, she had some difficulty trying to get those two huge bodies covered up. But finally it was done! Letting Hotep's horse go, she mounted her own and rode uneventfully back to her house. Lying down in her cool inviting bed, she lay there congratulating herself on a plan well enacted. Everything had gone off without a hitch thanks to her craftiness ! Lord Ramses would be hers now. Many plans and thoughts were flitting in and out of her head when quite suddenly she detected a faint scratching at her door. Must be that darn cat Bastet wanting in again. Well, not tonight my sweet little friend, she thought to herself. Nooo, not tonight. I need to start making my plans for tomorrow. Getting back to her last train of thought, she noticed with relief the cat had finally stopped. Good ! No time for silly cats now - not with all she had on her mind. Lady Seshat Ramses....mmmmm ...that had such a nice....oh now what ??!! That scratching again ! Lunging out of bed, she was determined to give Bastet a proper tongue lashing for disturbing her! Opening the door, she saw nothing. Suddenly she felt a sharp searing pain in her leg and looking down saw the cause of her now extreme distress. A cobra, no sweet feline ! Ohhh dear Gods...help me..... help me !!!! She moaned and slurred and whined and foamed collapsing in a crumpled heap on the floor. A terrible blackness soon descended and consumed her mind now...Oh sweet mother Isis...where am I ???!!! Now suddenly her benumbed brain detected a presence floating in the void she drifted in. Looming suddenly before her, more dark and terrible than any mere mortal could ever fathom, was the great Dark Lord himself, ANUBIS !!! Snatching her tiny black soul and writhing body in his mighty hands, he cast his burning eyes upon her, turning her this way and that. No words issued from him...no sounds... Then out of the black void surrounding him he slowly brought this tiny wriggling, glowing orb closer and closer to her numbed and prostrate body. Now he spoke sonorously, glaring at her, his eyes glowing with evil malevolence, his deep voice booming, filling her ears with a maddening and deafening din. "You have broken the laws of Ma'at ! Now for all eternity will your black heart slowly be eaten away by the legions of Ammut ! Her once so lovely mouth tried to scream, but no sound came out of those evil blackened lips. Closer and closer came the glowing thing, greedy and hungry, plopping on her chest with a sickening wet thud...nipping and digging and clawing it buried itself deeper and deeper in her chest. She gurgled and spat, choking on her own vile blood, making little mewling sounds while writhing in pain.... Now, ohhh yes now, she could scream .... * * * Historical Annotation Ammut was an ancient Egyptian demoness. She was known as the 'Eater of Hearts', 'The Devourer' and 'Great of Death' because she was a demoness of punishment. Ma'at was the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth, law, morality, and justice. Congrats on the win, wonderful image and that story is so creepy I ran and jumped back into bed and pulled the covers up over my head. Honest! Ok well, I was going to, but I decided I should write a few words of praise first - then go run and hide. Priorities and all, you understand. So, let it not be said that I do not have good manners.

As you know I love Ancient Egypt, too, so, this is especially fun for me. Your writing is filled with energy and passion. I love how you wove the mythology into your story. That is not easy to do. The image is gorgeous and I wish I could see it larger. Maybe in another post? Excellent work and congrats on winning 3rd place! Keep up with the writing!
