Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Thanks for posting this image, Bill. These two look to be late models, larger than the old woodies. Can't say I've seen a caboose in service for some time. Now of course, American railroads use un-manned "End of Train Devices" for the longer drags. I think the communications revolution and automated trackside sensors/barcode readers ended the need for most trainmen, and their traveling accommodations.

As a boy twice daily the freight train passed our house, I always counted the engines and cars....now and then there were two caboose on the end. I know of three of these scattered about , some converted into shops for tourists. Excellent capture. The freight trains no longer run the mountain rails here.

I really enjoy the pictures of the trains. When my son was young, he loved trains. He would always call a caboose, a bagoose. Brings back good memories. Great picture.

Beautiful shot. Brings back memories of the good ole days with the Atlantic Coast Line RR and a Lionel Electric Train which ran around the floor of my room. And, is that a stainless steel passenger car in the background?... Good Show Mate. Skipper

Great piece of History, My friend. And no! Not this side of the pond, I'm afraid either. We now have little red flashing lights!!! Not quite the same. Rob.

Reminds me of "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" :) Great shot. I miss cabooses - I grew up near the railroad track and would always run to wave at the man at the end of the line:)

They switched to a little mechanized box in the mid-80s. It was very sad! These cars have so much character. Thanks for the look back!

I love trains... Great shot, congrats!*****

Great shot - no I can not even remember the last time I saw a caboose on a train.

:) Great shot. I can remember the guys riding in the caboose waving at everyone in cars passing by. A neat childhood memory of mine.

A truly wonderful shot Bill, these should rightly be preserved. Over here the current trend is to scrap everything.

Stellar POV employed in this shot of the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe! Haven't seen one of these on a train for quite a spell. This looks like two of them joined at the hip. I believe you found similar photos of cabooses in my gallery that I posted way back when. I still have tons of them in my hard drive that I haven't uploaded yet. Are you aware that the voters in California just gave the okay to a bond proposition for a 222mph bullet train from Los Angeles to San Francisco?

They have gone from our rail system too. The trains don't look the same. Lovely capture.

Nice capture Bill. I gave it some thought and I agree with you. I think the last one I saw was in the 1980s!

It must be 20 years if not more since we had guard vans on our goods trains .As stated I think they dont look the same now and have no character either .Excellent capture and compo Bill :o) Mick

good shot Bill; neat ole Caboose. (my kids used to call them rebooses) lol

Cabooses are indeed passe. The conductor now rides up front with the engineer. I believe one railroad (that I am aware of) uses them in Montana. Good shot of a dead breed.

very fine shot, Bill, of this aged one...smile
