Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand-held image. Yesterdays Potter Wasp builds little round mud chambers for each egg that she lays. She then adds a paralyzed larva or caterpillar as food for her soon to hatch young and seals the chamber up. Every Paper Wasp picks their own spots to do this. Todays Paper Wasp builds uncovered paper-like nests that serve the same function but in much larger community groupings. Many paper Wasps use the same main structure and keep adding to the outer edges as more and more eggs are laid. I realize this image is a tad bit off focus but it was the best I managed to get and the patterns and colors made me decide to post it despite its flaws, lol. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Well I think the slight blurring adds to this shot Lee, almost like a soft focus effect!

Not up to your usual standards Lee but well worth posting none the less. I cant get over the narrow 'waist' on these wasps, and how they vary so much from our English wasps. I didn't know how many different species there were until joining RR, I still don't come to that. Your 25 acres seems to be teeming with most of them though and near enough every other little critter that lives on planet earth. Excellent work, thanks for sharing. Bravo!!!!!
