Description

I mentioned this to Tara one day last week, so this is for you my dear. Hope you can understand the description. It's much easier to demonstrate, but here goes. This is an item that was given to the troops way back 60 years or so. This one belonged to my brother, I'm sure someone out there will know more about it than I do. If so please put a comment for us. I believe it was called an 'Housewife' and this is one item out of that kit. It fits over your hand with the thumb through the hole and the inverted thimble sits on the heel of your thumb. They were used to repair for one thing saddles, for another the webbing and gaitors canvas tents etc. The twine you see was not in the kit I bought that from a saddlers shop along with the bees wax used to make the twine easier to pull through. As you can see the needles are quite large somewhat rusty as well. I have not used ot for quite a few years, but I have used it to mend shoes and belts and a leather jacket. On the reverse I can make out the letters EDCTCH and the MOD(Ministery of Defence) arrow to denote it their issue. There is some more letters stamped there but countless sweaty palms have made it impossible to read them. It's just one of those useful items I keep just in case its needed sometime. Been about fifteen years since I last used it and thats the reason the needles need a clean up with sandpaper. Thanks for stopping by for a look see, and for any comments you care to make. Sunshine hugs for those that need them, cool misty showers for those that don't.

Bloody hell, Jeff, when I saw the smaller pic I thought you were presenting something for the Castle's Room of Correction. So I zoomed in quick! But I see they aren't leather cuffs (in that sense anyway), but altogether more utilitarian. Toatlly original- never seen anything like them, if you get bored of them I am sure the lovely Syrana would find a use.. Thanks for the info! Dave
