Description

* Surtr was the first being that existed. While training with the flame-sword Surtalogi, the fire fell through Niflheim's glaciers, melted them and created the primal Rime-Giant Ymir and the cow Audhumla. Surtr was the ruler and guardian of the fire-world Muspellheim and the Fire-Giants. At the time of Ragnarok, Surtr will leave Muspellheim and lead an army of fire beings to the asgardian battlefield. The rainbow bridge Bifrost will break, fire will be brought to all nine worlds and gods, men and animals will burn to ashes. Surtur from the south wielding fire The gods' swords shine in the darkness, like stars in the night Mountains collapse into rubble And fiends shall fall Man walks the road to ruin as the sky splits in two ** I have used my artistic freedom in the characterization of Surtur. I hope the more "dogmatic" amongst us will not hate me for that. For me, Surtur is more like a demon with unearthly powers, ruler of the flames, than a Fire-giant as described by historians. It is a being like a wild fire itself..hungry and irrepressible, wild and impetuous. *** This is going to be my last image in a while, my friends. I have a lot to do and I need to find my muse for creating better images. I am also a bit dissapointed once again about how this whole community works and is based on. Judging from what I see getting promoted and praised and pushed up to high ranks, making my own works look very average, I need to rethink my POV about successful art. I like to deeply thank everyone who honestly commented and faved my images in the past. Render On!

I can see why you see Surtr like that and I can follow here. The world of the northern Gods is not my world - although a northern girl myself - but I can assure you that you and your work did open a new view for me and I'm grateful for that. I do hope you will come back to us and show your art. You shouldn't worry about those 'superartists' that rule the charts and win the challenges and are on the start side every day. They are not worth your worries. The 'averages' make this site! Thank you!

I agree with Rainbowgirl, don't let the Comment Politicians ruin it for you and for us, because we like your work. To go and find your muse is one thing, but to go because the Jocks and Cheeleaders are not conducive to good art is another. SO GO, find some more muse and quickly man, because we want to see what is in store next from your gallery!!! 10+++++

"I need to rethink my POV about successful art." Huh? Now what do you mean by that Karel?? Does it mean you want to make 'succesful art' instead of the things you like to make?? ..instead of the BREATHTAKING -not mainstream- Art you create?? This cannot be true so you must mean something else.. "dissapointed in the community once again.." ?? what did change here then? As long as I post here there are comment spammers, buddy favs and much more things that sound negative.. But also as long as I post here and follow your awesome works I see LOTS of people who truly admire your work and comment accordingly.. I always thought the "RENDER ON" statement stood for "do-YOUR-thing-NO-matter-WHAT.." Was I wrong?? -I don't think so- "making my own works look very average" Average??? YOUR work??? What is it that makes one of the Artists I highly respect for his ability to create STUNNING Art feel so insecure about his work?? Is it the Charts?? (what I am about to say is equal to 'artistic suicide' maybe but I do not care one bit for I make my stuff because I like it. -I- like it.. Learned that from you my friend.. this is what 'RENDER ON' ment to me..) Okies, the charts then.. Want to see some average works?? Go see the charts then.. We all know -and see- what is happening there.. We see who has a lot of 'friends' there.. not who makes the most stunning Art.. Oh, thank God so now and then there ARE breathtaking pieces getting the ranks they deserve IMHO.. (and I am NOT talking about my T&A doodles here..) In fact.. If someone reads this who faved ANY of my doodles NOT because he/she liked it I rather have him/her not faving me anymore.. I said this onces on DL or DAG and I repeat it here. Now I think you should take a bit of your own medicine: "RENDER ON!!!!!!" /rant mode off.. Okies Karel, I don't know if you consider me to be a friend after this comment, I still consider you to be my friend.. -no matter what- ..that are friends for ya know.. Charley

Gorgeous work. Artistic freedom is what it's all about. I hope you won't stop. In my opinion, we each have to believe in our own abilities and paths and evolve in whatever direction we need to pursue. I've never understood the value of ratings, popularity, or judging when it comes to art. I do believe in empowering others and supporting like-minded people. In any case, it's been a pleasure seeing your inspiring gallery. I'm not sure how you define success, but I see a lot of that going on in each of your images.

You know, sometimes I feel that when I finish a piece, I don't feel it being "worthy" or "original" or the like, and for a while I wondered why some people are frequently on the charts. Now, I know how this site's format works and to date I've really only been disappointed in a few people, and the reason why was that they quit. Not saying you're quitting or anything, or that I'm disappointed in you -^ I create what I like, which means I create what I have fun creating. And there are times when every artist has to take a step back, look at the whole picture, and regroup for lack of a better term that I can come up with. Again, I know how it all works here, and while I sometimes feel a twinge of envy, when I step back a little I become a bit more satisfied in my work. My work will never be popular here, I'm still a "newcomer" and I don't use the right software for my creations, but those two requirements don't make me an inferior artist -^ We may not have the same style, but I do consider your work to be some of the most creative work in our category ^_^ Not to stir the pot, but some of the more popular postings are created with very little original content.

Karel, Charley... I can end this subject but it won't be pretty ;) This entire run of images based on the Norse pantheon has been educational to me. It was a subject I knew little of before. Great image, the flames and glow from them look fantastic.

Well Karel... I for one... LOVE YOUR ART! And yes it is successful art to me! I don't know exactly what you mean by what you stated, but if you have made the art charts, won contests, made someone smile... then it is successful art! My dear, you have done ALL three!! So no more talk about unsuccessful. I have not made the art charts not once! So, does that mean I should stop doing what I love to do? I create art for myself... as a hobby... I am glad when others like what I have done.. but I do it more for the joy of it than anything else. RENDER ON... that is YOUR saying and that I will keep doing... Much love to ya and I will miss your posts if you stop. This is one awesome peice of art right here! The fire is outstanding and I always love you hair painting techniques which I would LOVE to have!!! You are successful.. dont let anyone tell you differently! HUGS!!

Don't get started Karel on the workings of the charts. lol Your work is fabulous and I am saddened that you will not be posting. I think Charley and others have said it all. Don't judge your work on whether WE like it, it's if YOU like it. The art we do is an extention of us. Enjoy what you are doing. This is not a competion, though I think some people think of the site as competing. Be true to yourself. :o) I think this is an excellent render, that's my two cents. :o)

Gorgeous image Karel! I love this view of Surtur! As far as this community and the charts making your art look average. I beg to differ, it makes the charts look average. Some cannot promote a talent over there own, and some are just on the charts because of popularity. You are a large talent, and I love your art! I think you too love your art, it shows in every image, the love you put into it. So take your time and rethink your pov, but please come back soon, I will miss your art!

I would not worry too much about the charts It is not "best image" it is.. Most commented.. which is something completely different If you want to make an image that is nr. 1 in these charts you have to create a network of friends.. - I don't I surf around on sleepless nights (3. in my morning now) and comment on what I like.. that it means to get comments back is often fun.. (to read) but it's not why you have to be here.. An image is good, when you think it is good Thinking of the amound of satisfaction an image gives.. i like the one I made 'yesterday'.. (13 nov - lonely knight) because what i wanted.. succeeded if it does not get the most comments.. I do not care.. even if only one had commented.. it would still be one of the images i like most (of myself).. "Tower at the Lake" is one of my favo's .. but it did not get most comments here.. Is that important.. not for me..

I like this image of yours.. and I comment others might like it too.. but don't perhaps they are in a bif of hurry perhaps they are not in the mood perhaps there English is not good enough some of the ones who's major/first language is not english copy paste the same words everywere (nice / good job) others try to comment in there own language.. others do not comment but marvell .. Be happy with your own art.. it will be online here until you remove it and many will see and enjoy it.. charts are not the standard the ones who like your Art are... and I like it and so should you.. do keep making art for those who appreachiate it and again.. if you want to be number one in the chart.. comment on all and everyone.. but if that is your coal, you could aswell make many aliases here and comment on yourself.. ha ha

I have always loved your art Karel. And have always given honest comments, as you have commented honestly on mine. Personally, I don't think you have lost your creative muse but if you're looking, perhaps you can find mine, it definitely seems to have gone missing. I look forward to seeing more of your awesome work.

Absolutely stunning work, as always! I'm with so many of the other commenters on this. While I certainly understand the need to take time off and recharge the creative batteries, you shouldn't let a 'community' decide what's best - let the fans and admirers of your work speak better for you. Your work is exceptional and shouldn't be looked at as a popularity contest. Your work speaks for itself and tells stories that so few touch on or even know about. Don't let a petty thing like 'community approval' dim that radiant glow of creativity that you have glowing within you. Create what YOU love, what moves YOU, and what inspires YOU....you might just be surprised at the impact that you have and do have. "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage on, against the dying of the light"

Iv'e been telling friends I see every day about this really neat, well known artist, that creates some of the best stuff on rendo, and has probably forgotton more than some have learned. Then I hear their oohs and aws when I show them your art. This one is another 5 plus! XOXO

Just one more thing: Somebody brought up the "popularity charts" and all over sudden everyone thinks that is what I was aiming for or trying to establish. I really appreciate all your good advices, telling me how unimportant the charts really are...seems like the charts are a big issue for you, not for me...I am sorry. I wasnt talking about, not even mentioning the charts. I know exactely how these are structured and who makes it in and why. When I said I need to rethink my POV about successful art, I didnt talk about " popular art" as to be seen in the charts. Sorry for speaking out loud that I am dissappointed. However, I like to thank everyone who has taken the time to write some of the longest comments I have seen here! Its also quiet interesting to view that a matter like this is for most way to much to concentrate while scrolling superficially through these galleries. You are welcome to send me a PM should you like to talk about this matter. Gone to find my muse and looking for Jaynes muse..........smile.. Render On !

I love your art and look forward seeing new works from you always. I'm not going to get into here, I'll PM you, lol, but bottom line is this: Who gives a rat's *** what other people think. This is about what YOU'RE satisfied with. And what you're satisfied with turns out to be some of the best art in this place. And lots of us know it. Hugs. -Elisa

I'm totally with you on that. It seams like individuality, creativity and originality are not what counts when you want to be in the charts. It was the masses want/accept(Victoria portrays or Victoria half naked with a sword in a temple that sort of thing) or how many friends you have.Oh , can you hear the masses right now screaming and shouting their excuses or punishing you/me with arrogance and ignorance? Well, all what I say to that is "Never mind the bollocks" BUT.... you got to RENDER ON!!!!!
