Description

Bull Brow is a dodgy looking short-cut passageway central to an old section of the town of Rochdale Lancashire UK. I'm hoping JeffG7BRJ knows something about this because I think this lies under what used to be the Grapes Hotel because of an inscription further inside on the wall. Most people walk the longway round to the shopping centre LOL I once walked through and there were needles and condoms discarded!

Bet those cobblestones have many stories to tell. Glad you elected to show us this neat shortcut...well, maybe neat is always an appropriate word :-) I like this shot...lots of character here. Bill

We've got a lot of 'dodgy looking short cuts' in my town!! I like this one, at least you can see both ends! If they are a bit narrower, I've always called them 'snickets', do you use that word, I think it's Yorkshire.

They are such strange places but I feel that the modern underpass is much scarier. Good idea to record.

We have tons and tons of "Dodgy" ally ways in London, they spent millions on creating new ones and tarting up the old ones, and nobody uses them, thugs hang around in them to rob people, and the people would rather risk their lives crossing the roadways instead, like Garlor says, the modern underpass is far more dangerous, Great shot mate amd your tone map treatment is spot on, great colours to this I saw her today I saw her face what a face it was and I knew I had to go away get down on my knees and pray that they'd go away Needles and condoms LOL...

A bit late for most but yes I do know a bit about this passage, you are quite right in it being the Grapes public house that was there Alan. The grapes was something akin to two pubs in one, as you see the passage rises up quite steeply. There was two entrances to the grapes one at the top too the left on Baillie Street that was called the 'Top Grapes' and the other to the left of this image on The Butts Avenue up a couple of steps was known as 'The Bottom Grapes'. The Bottom Grapes was a well known hang out of the prostitutes of the town. They were ostracised from the Town center to the Tweedale Street area when the Grapes eventually closed down. Excellent capture Alan and a wonderful example of the stone setts that used to be all over the Town center but most have been covered over with tarmac, which I think is a sin. Whoever decided to cover them should spend eternity in the bowels of Hell. Superb work mate. Bravo!!!!! 5+++++ Fav
