Description

For Mel (Eganko) and her mommy I give the gift of the Goddess. I hope this small spell may help her in her time of need. Mel's mom is today undergoing surgery to amputate her one remaining leg. Please drop by Mel's site and give her your blessings. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1784265 The story of Nut tells us to never give up on our hopes and dreams. She reminds us to persevere in the face of all odds and to seek the blessings and help from friends and family when in need. The Egyptian Sky Mother Goddess Nut was widely known for her spectacular beauty and her loving kindness. Nut's generous nature led her into several affairs including with the Sun God Ra and with both her brothers - Thoth, the God of divine words, and Geb, the God of the earth. When Geb succeeded their father as Pharaoh of Egypt, he took Nut to be his wife and queen; a common practice in pharaohnic Egypt. This angered her previous husband the sun God Ra. Ra forbade them to have children. He ordered their father, Shu, to separate them and cast a spell that prevented her from giving birth on any day of the year. However, her other brother, Thoth, seeing the pregnant Nut weeping in desperation, could not help but have pity on his beloved sister. He promised Nut that he would solve her problem. Thoth talked Selkhet, the moon-goddess, into a gambling game that went on for nine months. Eventually winning the game, Thoth was awarded enough of the moons light to create five new days in the year. These days he gave to Geb and Nut. During each of these days Nut gave birth to one child: Horus, Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys. Hence Nut came to be the Mother of the Gods. The additional five days that Thoth won were added to the solar year which originally had 12 months of 30 days each. These additional days were devoted to celebrations honoring Nut. Her festivals were held in late February, just before the start of the solar year. This legend explains how our calendar year came to have 365 days. A protectress of the dead Nut's image was often depicted on the inner lid of the coffin to face the mummy. In this way the dead were forever comforted by the constant presence of this ever loving Goddess. Blessed Be. Wow, very creative concept - love the celestial background. Wonderful, magical feeling in this one. As usual, I'm inspecting the lighting: I see you did it in a much different way than I would have - and it works very well here! A good teacher will understand when he can learn from the student LOL - great job!

Another great addition to your goddess series, I particularly like the Fx and background, you chose well, as they work to convey her strength and power. More than the image, though, it was the story that captured my attention in this instance. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

A thoughtful, beautiful, and totally appropriate dedi, Roxy. I hope Mel took some comfort from this. Both the image and background information on Nut are extremely well done. Not only is your work beautiful and inspirational, it is educational too! Your post-work has improved exponentially with your new tools! The use of the nebula background was a truly inspired choice.
