Description

One of the things I do around the property is maintain the various gardens, of which you've seen pictures of in the earlier postings. this set of pictures shows the before and after of what my mom has wanted done for several years. Well today, I got out the Hedge shears and the branch loppers and visciously attacked the Hydrangea (French Lace) and it went from a bush that was almost 6 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter to something under 2 1/2 feet in diameter and 18 inches tall in the span of an hour and a half - 5 wheel-barrow loads later. In a way it was occupational therapy for me as it was physical and mental exercise. and it did get me outside for once today. We'll be going back on the hike tonight and for a while with the possible exception of some more extreme makeover - garden edition shots. And it will be a little bit longer before we get back to Bambi's story as somehow I've got to convince the ladies to tell me the history of the pact and then write it down in their own words as it were so everyone knows what the pact was all about. (subject to possible translation errors - They do speak the language of the fae and while they do speak our English, there is that possiblity of errors creeping in). To all of you who commented on my previous images thank you very much and I thank you in advance for the comments on this set. Have a great weekend Mike

Mike, that's awesome that you are doing that for your mom and dad. I did the same when my mom came down with cancer and now that she is gone I stay for my dad who is not in the best of health. It means certain sacrifices but hey they made plenty for me along the way. Looks like the shrub came out second best in the struggle of domination. Hope it did not wear you out too much. I ache now just thinking of the hour and half you spent tackling that chore!

now this is a great job you did my friend. i was selling chainsaws and hedgecutters in my professional-life as well(the shop we had was huge, well not my shop but the bosse'-lol)),but i never used this because i do have an awful respect for these machines and i never worked with them. i always managed to get someone doing it for me,and i gave another service in return. this is definitely a favorite because it reminds me of a lot.

Great before and after! I did something like that with the shrubs in our backyard a few years ago! They were over 7ft tall when i started but as the day wore on so did I! So the I held the trimmers lower and lower to the gound until I could barely hold them up at all! so needless to say it was not very even or very pretty needless to say my wife was none to pleased. (Oh well you marry geek don't give him a hammer and expect him to build you a house!) PS do you trim the neighbours bush also?

That was a big pruning job! I had my parents move in with me in June for the same reasons, I feel better being able to keep an eye on them and help them out when they need it. And in return I get the pleasure of being around them, and I get dinner ready when I get home from work, my trash taken out and my animals get company all day long. Not a bad tradeoff at all!

Great job you are doing that for your parents Mike. I know it can be difficult, I nursed my mother until she died in 2007 over a period of 4 years. I whis I could do it now, I really miss her.
