Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Awesome Shot!!

This is an interesting image because it has electric lights and candles. The chandelier is very elaborately decorated and the candles are simple tapers in modest candle holders.

Wonderful image Marilyn... I'm gonna put my foot in it now... I liked the clarity of Tara's chandelier better but I like your POV and compo better... :)

Interesting to see a same object captured by a different artist. Equaly great and you capture a wonderful war color too.

A different view but equally as stunning.

I didn't see Tara's contribution but I do like the POV, DOF, stark color and contrast lighting effects in this image, M.

Very interesting composition. Very well done.

OK, now I'm torn. Tara's shot is a bit more colorful and warmer, yours is more subdued (is that really you?), both show a beautiful light fixture....I can't choose. Do I have to?

Nobody will ever believe we weren't in there at the same time, doing this on purpose! LOL! Setting your laptop up next to my computer and comparing shots was the most fun I had all day! :) It was amazing to see how many things we'd both shot. I like this ... ummmm ... dining room, right?

Tara's piece is reds w/ deep ambers, a "rembrandt" kind of warmth. Yours is reds with bright whites, a commanding presence. Both capture the jewel-like feeling, and both capture the deep golds & earth tones of the room. (At least as they appear in the photos.) The shimmer of the window & lights in your shot makes it appear almost apocalyptic. (You may know it, but 'chandelier' comes from the word for 'candle' and originally meant 'white' & 'light', so apocalyptic is fitting. Tons of candles in one holder should be sumptuous.) A bejeweled shot, and I like the surroundings & esp. the blueish wall on the right: It almost seems granulated by the glare. (Nice homage on the wall's part!) Lovely & glittering piece.

There is a dark, angular expanse in the upper left quadrant of this picture, and it surprises me in a good way. The whole picture is fantastic, well seen and presented and the colors are superb, but that shadowed area gives this the feel of something Rembrandt would have done...I think it's the darkness and the color, they play off of each other wonderfully! Great work!
