Description

I looked forward to my little trip to the river today, to visit the swans again. Unfortunately there were only TWO (not two hundred or two thousand, like I had hoped!) swimming in the river. But there were hundreds of mallards and the same ONE Wood Duck there, that is still following his favorite Mallard around. It's the cutest thing how the one wood duck follows that mallard around like its her shadow!! Of course, pictured here is that one sweet Wood Duck. :-) See more about the Swans at the Mississippi! My favorite spot to photograph Trumpeter Swans. Thank you for stopping by and for any comments you should decide to leave. Hope you all are having a nice weekend! This looks almost painted, I haven't seen a wood duck up close so this looks painted. The colors are so vivid and smooth. It is a beautiful creature. Great job taking it's picture!

Stellar colors in this terrific macro of the wood duck, but if it's made of wood, how does it follow your favorite mallard around? The only answer I can think of is that the mallard has some metal on it and the wooden duck has a built-in magnet.

Beautiful portrait. Especially love the colors. I haven't got a shot of this species of duck yet. :( Wonderful work!

Beautifully colored portrait...We have Wood Ducks here & they cross breed with Mallards (as far as I know) Maybe that's why he follows.

I also thought this might be painted. Would be beautiful either way. Maybe a little too sharpened though... causing the 'halo'. Incredible shot of one of my favorite birds.

Wonderful portrait. He looks friendly...lots of swans and geese around here have a look that seems to say, stay away. I like the sheen of his feathers...quite something. Bill

If you had taken a wider shot, this could have been an Odd One Out, don't you think?? Excellent capture Shari, and I like the story about this lone bird. Too cold here today to go to the lake, temp. about 2 degrees C and a touch foggy. I'm staying in keeping warm. Excellent capture, superb clarity and detail, wonderful colour tones. Bravo!!!!!
