Description

Dioclès Priest of the Cult of the Mysteries In the antique Greek religion, the mysteries of Éleusis were a part of a cult with mysteries, of esoteric nature, made in the temple of Déméter to Éleusis (20 km in the northwest of Athens). Dedicated to Déméter and her daughter Perséphone. According to the Greek mythology, Perséphone, girl of Zeus and Déméter, was kidnapped by Hadès to be his wife and the queen of the Hells, while she picked flowers in the meadows of Enna (Sicily). The cultures stopped growing in fields while Déméter crossed the world in search of her daughter. One day, while she roamed on the lands of Greece under the lines of an old beggar, she entered the city of Éleusis and asked the hospitality. The citizens welcomed her with a big generosity and, in gratitude, the goddess revealed her real identity and rewarded her benefactors : she revealed them her mysteries and the master's degrees of agriculture. Afterward, Déméter found her daughter but she was not able to be completely released from the Hells, because those who eat the food of the deaths cannot return at the alive and because Perséphone had eaten seven pips of the pomegranate (fruit associated with the wedding) offered by Hadès. Zeus decreed however that Perséphone would spend half of the year on earth (during the season of the cultures) with her mother and the rest of the year (the winter) with Hadès. Thank you for stopping by ! I wish you all a wonderful week-end :)
