Description
I'm kinda making this castle thing and was hoping for some helpful comments. I haven't made any textures yet and there's a whole load more moddelling to do. I'm going to make the textures using painter to get a fantasy look. I will also be adding more detail, a background and better lighting.
If anyone can come up with some good ways to make this image better, or if there is anything that might just look cool, that would be good.

Erm, you mean this picture isn't finished yet??? Man, it's sooo lovely. Got the cartoonish feel already and great textures. Can't give you any helpful comments, sorry, but you sure can give me some! How did you do the grass? How did you get the clay feeling? I love it!

Excellent work! I like the style. But I'm agree with roggel. Tell us about the secret of your grass!

This is too cool. A castle with a satelite dish. Now that is a cool idea.

I can't think of any comments, the textures and the grass are great.

Blimy, that was a quick response. The textures are all from the max library, just there temporarily. I think the clay look is all down to the curved edges on almost everything. Curved edges always look more natural, and most hings have them if you look closely. The grass is real simple. I made a single vlade of grass shape and used the scatter modifier to populate some meshsmooth lumps of ground. I then created a very simple object around the edge that almost (but not quite) touches the grass. I used this object as a vol select object with soft selection. This has the effect of selecting the blades of grass only around the edge. On top of this an X-form modifier is used with the gizmo moved down a bit. So now the grass around the edge is pulled down to get that drooping effect. There's a subtle wave modifier on top of all that, which makes the grass wave slightly in the wind. Easy. I'm not just looking for technical help, I'm more interested in creative comments.

very good, love the grass. If it were me, I would extend the stone bridge out, it would obviously make it so that people could get to the castle. Even if you didn't extend the bridge out, put some wooden supports on the bottom of it, whether clay or stone, it would breaks in real life.

Looks great, the gras is incredible

This looks fantastic, I cant wait to see the final product. I agree with Novakog about the bridge though, you might want to consider creating an arc of that mud like substance drooping from it into the main base. Also, you might want to think about adding a few more windows into the tower to add abit more variation - or even better, a couple of tapestries or flags hanging from the walls to add to the variation AND add a bit of color. =DBZ=

Excellent work, just need to carry on as you are doing, though maybe it would be a good idea to add some sort of air vehicle cocking woth that half bridge. Make sense as I can't see how else they're going to get down, unless they use a basket on that pulley... :P
???
Just Beatyful work, and beautyful idea. I love it! :) Jose Luis

There will be a bridge I just haven't built it yet.

The two windows on the left wall show the blue background behind them. Should it not be a room there? I'd like to see the draw bridge either wooden, or you could do stone with arched supports, one coming off the cliff underneath? The little sun dial or astronamy apparatus looks too much like a satelite dish, sort of disrupts the mood I find. Maybe you could put something hanging from the rope on the far left because it's a bit plain just having the rope. Possibly a set of wooden planks or stoen bricks being hoisted up? Just some things I noticed, and ideas that came to me. Beautiful image though! I love all the varied geometry, gives the image excellent repetition. Excellent!

What a cool picture! Excellent grass with excellent procedure! You can work more with walls for different surface for top (sun and wind make walls dry, rough and desaturated) and near the base (rain water move dust and dirt down, this part never dryes and often is green-noisy). The simple way for it is using gradient ramp with its noise with different UV map channel. Of course, adding of damages and extending few bricks out of wall here and there will make look better. But this one good enough! P.S. Why you hide top part from us, ah?

Incredible model - and LOL! the satellite dish!!
