Description

Playing around with the smoke, think I got it looking pretty good too, pity I couldn't add more of a sense of movement and speed though

Getting the lighting right in a nightime setting is difficult and you've nailed it!

Maybe messing with the depth of field a little would have helped with the movement? I'm not the best one to mention anything about trains around, I still want to do the Giger Death Train with a teddy bear impaled on one spike :)

with a little playing around with the background, you would have a nice polar express scene with that perspective

If you have PSP or PS, you can cut out the locomotive and give it a very, very slight motion blur, then paste it back onto your picture. That's what I did with my "Japanese Airfield" picture, if you'd like to see an example of the technique. Think you certainly nailed the night lighting and colouring. The smoke is quite well done (better than I've managed to date at any rate) but still doesn't look quite correct to my eye. Would also--given the name of the title--would have liked to have seen some railroad cars behind the locomotive. Still a very fine render, Jilly.
