Description
BUY THIS CAR!!!
Sixty-fourth in a series of classic vehicles, captured 9/21/08, at the beautiful Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, held annually at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in overpopulated Southern California.
For more information on this event, see my posting for 9/28/08.
Duesenberg won the Indianapolis 500 three times, and chief engineer Fred Duesenberg was always looking for more power. Although the auto shown above is a J model, in 1932, the SJ version added a supercharger that raised horsepower to 320 and top speed to 130.
Depending on the customer's preferences, the J was identified by chrome external exhaust pipes, as displayed in photos #1 and #2. Consistent with Duesenberg's policy of satisfying the client, the external exhaust could be ordered on naturally aspirated Js or added to older cars, such as the auto shown above. Some SJ customers had the supercharger removed, but left the pipes.
Please see yesterday's posting of this Duesenberg for explicit details and history of the venerated automobile.
It may not be too evident in the top shot, but the gentleman on the right is holding up his baby for a better view of this elegant conveyance...introducing the very young to the very old.
Like a billowy white cloud or snowcapped mountain, everyone loves a whitewall tire/tyre, as depicted in photo #3. How would you like the unenviable task of cleaning those spokes with a toothbrush?
And although the hood ornament came out relatively well, I shouldn't have used the macro setting in the bottom picture. Live and learn.
As always, better viewed full size.
Thankx for clicking on, and have a hot and heavy hump day.

Quite an impressive piece of steel...high tech in its time...great shots..

Fortunately these cars were recognized and preserved though in 1957 my friend told me go see a Duesenberg for they may not be there when you are 21. I did not see one until I was almost 60. By then they were 1-2 million apiece. I don't recognize the hood ornament probably because it is a 1933.

Such a beauty. The detail and worksmanship of these old Duessies is unsurpassed. Again, I gave my father in law a bottle similar to this with some whisky in it, hahaha. Thanks for the "Indiana" Jones catch, btw... Great series.
