Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

What a sweet, wonderful description of this church. You take such a simple observation and give it life, color and charm--beautiful!!

You know, my friend, many people would have said, "I don't know the name of this church, and it was raining when I took the picture," and left it at that. They would not have woven a tale, fashioned a mood, drawn the seemingly casual reader's soul out into the rain to walk half aimlessly through a Czech town looking for beer and modern political art. I'm sure you can tell which I prefer.

The red tiled roof really adds so much life to this now unused church structure. And your narrative adds even more to the photo.

A beautiful shot of a beautiful quiet place and as usual your story adds so much to it. I apologise for not following your uploads for quite some time now. I'll make amends ;-)

You are going native, Chip. You know more about your locale than the locals do.And its showing more and more. Another excellent post.

I agree with Tara....it's amazing how you can take something simple and it turns poetic...love it Chip ! Hugs ~

Yes, Tara encapsulated it perfectly; it's your descriptions that weave the magic into your images. In another time you would have been a master bard. I do so look forward to your uploads!

Unused? I find that interesting. Perhaps, it only looks unused to some... perhaps God still uses it but no one comes? Perhaps, it is well used by mice or spiders...and notice - you used it well in this shot. :-)

wow, great comments here. Tara, Marilyn, Mina, etc—ditto ditto ditto. And you are a bard, you just don't drink mead and fight Goths. (!) I can see that you've taken a break from your imaginative journeys and dug into your rich memory in your last few uploads. It's wonderful how you lead us one place and then discover another, not apologizing for leaving the first journey aside because that is how life is...and then delving into a place whose name you don't know and whose mystery you ponder...you leave mystery intact, and do it with gentleness and caress. And the photo...this is fine work Chip. It's as if the beginning of rain purified the hues and made every color of the walls stand out. They shimmer & speak worlds, and there is much old age & music in them (and clarity in the stone walkway, and that big bold red-tile roof!) Terrific shot, wonderful memory-journey, and another fav. Boy what a joy it is to stop here; and to think I still have most of your gallery to catch up on...(and they call clocks 'metronomes'? That's great! I'm a pianist, and to me a metronome is that sniveling little monster that sat on your piano during lessons, and 'ticked' until you wanted to throw it out the window! I'd love to see the metronome you're talking about...)

Legend has it that the oldest of vampires will take up residence in such disused holy places. Perhaps they've grown so strong that they hallowed forces of the church are too weak to repel them. Perhaps the vampire no longer cares about living amongst the symbols and spirits of those who seek to counter them. Perhaps they just seek out the quiet and stillness of such places. Or perhaps they have come at last to make their peace with God.
