Description

Blue and White: the colors of their wedding. David had been astonished when Alice told him she had wanted their wedding to be in shades of blue. Blue had never even been close to her favorite. ************************** "Why blue?" he had asked. Alice smiled a shy little smile. She always blushed when she smiled, as though showing a smile was somehow making a scene. "Blue is what you are to me," she said. He had frowned, completely clueless as to what she had meant. "It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven." she said. "You are all those things to me." He stood staring at her for a moment, unable to speak. Alice was always quiet and almost never used words to express herself, only actions. Having her say these things out loud to him was rare, very rare indeed. "It will be blue...on one condition," he said to her firmly. "What is the condition?" "We must have white as the second color." Alice laughed, "White isn't really a color, Silly!" David smirked at her, but said nothing more. Finally Alice asked him, "Why white?" "White is you," he simply stated. "White means goodness and perfection...all the things you are to me." Her green eyes shown with childish glee. "You always seem to make me so happy. How DO you do that?" "We were made for each other," he said taking her small body in his arms. "Yes," she said resting her hand and head on his chest, "Together forever." ********************************* David thought about that day as he stared at the small white and blue Christmas tree. He wasn't sure why he put it up this year, maybe to remember her or maybe he just thought it would be a comfort to see something familiar. Had anyone looked at him they would have seen a tall, slightly heavy man that appeared to be resting on a leather couch, sipping herbal tea. On the outside he looked fine, but on the inside there was nothing, nothing but memories...and pain. Alice had been his world. Without her, nothing mattered. He finished the steaming tea in a pain chug, sat the cup on the floor and rolled up into a blanket. This was how he spent every night, asleep on the couch and every day he struggled through just to get to this moment again. "What does it matter?" he said softly. "Nothing matters without you." he mumbled and drifted to sleep like so many nights before. Just a short story I wrote to go along with this phot. I may add more to the story later if anyone likes it.
