Description

Since I am on the prison kick, here is a view of the east cell block of the Mansfield reformatory. It is still the worlds largest free standing steel cell block, it is not attached to any of the exterior walls. It could hold nearly 1000 men. The cells are small and each held two prisoners. This differs from the west cell block which is built of block and mortar. Some people get really creeped out by this place, you can see why... Thanks for everyones' great comments!

Great shot...can you imagine scrapping all that pealing paint? Is this Mansfield, Ohio? Bet there's some lead in there too. I appreciate this sort of photo since I live in Leavenworth. Fortunately for me...I'm outside the walls, not inside :-) There are actually three prisons here, the Federal Penitentiary, the Kansas State Pen and the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB)...all in use. Great photo, it really captures how hugely depressing it must have been to be imprisoned here.

That truly is a creepy-looking place. Even when it was new it must have been a horrifying environment. Fantastic photograph, though ... really excellent work. The light is awesome, and the pov is suitably imposing.

Great capture. The lighting and textures accentuate the sombre (creepy?) mood. Congratulations on being selected for LWITG 52!
