Description

Hi! Thanks for stopping in and having a look! Today we're getting a little weird. I got the Ant Farm's 'Denizen' character over at DAZ because I thought he looked pretty cool... but then what to do with him? Is he some kind of piscian explorer returning from an expetidion to dry land? Is he invading the deeps? I've left this one deliberately ambiguious... Aside from the Denizen character, everything else is Vue7i. Spectral atmosphere with radiosity. Two cloud layers, one high, one low. Aside from the three 'hero' rocks in the foreground the rocks are a painted ecosystem. The trees were hand placed. Something that I spent a lot of time on, but that ended up coming off rather subtly, is the mixed materials on the rocks and the denizen's pants. Close to the water they are darker, shiny materials with a bit of reflection to simulate wet rocks and fabric. The moon is a big old sphere primative with a procedural texture, waaay in the distance. The atmosphere is quite thick with a atmospheric perspective of around 20 and a lot of fog and haze. Lights are volumetric. With all that render time was a modest four or five hours at 'final' quality. Postwork consisted of working in Photoshop painting in a little additional foreground fog, easier to do in post than to screw around with meta clouds for three weeks. Some levels and hue adjustments and a light layer of film grain. Title and copyright completed the image. As always thanks for your comments and constructive criticism. Since this will be my last render posted here in 2008; I'd like to wish you all a safe, happy and healthy 2009.

i see you're ending the year with a bang! stunning render - the light from the denizen looks great. That character always confused me - i can never quite work out where his head is LOL. I really like how you've kept the colour scheme - all the greens.

Very nice work! Love the colors. Can't tell if he coming at us or away, but that's part of the ambiguity that makes me stare at the render more...

Nicely done! I haven't seen too much of this guy outside of his inspiration, but I must say he looks like he's right at home, even if he's not surrounded by glass and steel.

It's a great looking character, but your right... what to do with him (her?). You seem to have solved the problem and this is a very good looking render. Have a great New Year!

Happy New Year to you! zooming in, i think the wet materials really paid off. it is a subtle difference, but i think that subtle details often show the care an artist has taken with a work. i really like the atmosphere and the almost monochromatic scene. a good way to end the year.

Wonderful, little on the mystical dreamy side, with the creature from the black lagoon lighting mood. Wonderful work :)
