Description

Photo taken in Cade's Cove last October on our trip to The Smoky Mountains. Earlier in the day we saw deer but they were skittish and elusive often grazing far in the distance or behind trees and shrubs. Of course we took photos of them, all the while, knowing they wouldn't be great shots but we did the best we could. Maybe next time; we thought. It was late afternoon and sun was going down fast and, although we didn't want to we started to make our way out of Cade's Cove when we came upon a herd of deer in a clearing. By chance we were able to quickly pull over into one of only two pullovers on a section of a very narrow one way road out of Cade's Cove. Marshall got out of his truck and proceeded to do what I can only describe as "commune" with the herd of deer. I held back not wanting to spook the deer and took these and other shots. I turned around a few times and realized that Marshall had created quite a traffic jam because some park visitors had slowed down while others had completely stopped their cars to view the scene before them. When it seemed that the deer were completely at ease with him being there; he motioned for me to join him. And when I did we both said how lucky we were because everyone of those people stuck in their cars on road wished they were us. Check out Marshall's post: Taking Care for a closeup of the buck and his doe. Thanks for stopping by. Happy New Year!

It is so cool when moments like this happen. It makes you feel so at one with nature. What a wonderful day you had! Both are excellent shots! I'd be framing the one of Marshall taking the picture! Hope you did. Have a wonderful new year.
