Description

I have a whole family of Hadedas (Ibis family) nesting in a huge tree in my neighbours yard. Most of the tree however is hanging over on my side. About a week ago three babies fell (or were kicked out) of the nest. One died from the fall. I didn't see it and my gardener removed it. These two were then left. The one in front had a slight limp. I think he might have sprained a muscle with the fall. I called a nearby shelter for injured wild animals and they encouraged me to keep an eye out and see if the mother still feeds them before bringing them in. Sadly, the one at the back died two days ago. We suspect that the mother knew he was weak and only fed the front one. I am happy to report that his leg healed completely and his mother feeds him regularly. He is strong and now started hissing at us when we get too close. He has taken up the one small pond in the front yard as his haven!!!! Hold thumbs with us that the little guy makes it! Thank you for popping in and for your valued comments and favs on my previous upload. Have a great weekend! Hugs, Carin xx

Isn't it amazing...you begin by taking a simple photo or two...then you find yourself online checking out pertinent facts...then approaching a caretaker's role. What next? I know, it happens to me too. Excellent photo with an A-1 narrative. Bill

Wonderful photo. Holding thumbs with you for the little guy. I have a feeling that if they had to fall into a yard -- yours was probably the best one. Move slowly, talk softly to him and I'll bet he will quit hissing at you soon.

Beautiful birds-- love the iridescent feathers. Funny, the back one looks larger, but maybe it was ruffled feathers. Great capture! One is better than none, at least.

What beautiful birds! It is sad when they are pushed from the nest. I will keep my fingers crossed that the one does survive.

Beautiful birds, and though it seem sad, it is nature's way of taking care of things. I love the colors!!

They seem so interesting, as we have nothing such as them here. I hope the survivor makes it. It is sad that the rules of nature seem so harsh, but when the strongest survive, then it makes the species stronger. We have such wonderful life on this planet, and we should take care of it, just as you had planned to do to search for a rescue group for the baby birds. I hope all is well now.
