Description

Created as a commentary on the shear lack of imagination possessed by today's youth. As a high school art teacher I see so many students that no matter how many techniques and skills I show them, they still can't come up with an original idea. I attribute this death of imagination to watching to much television and other activities the don't stimulate the creative juices. Thus the title Phantasma Mortis (Death of imagination.)

Wow! This is wonderful. I love that central figure and the personality of all the children are great. Wonderful landscape of books, too. How sad to hear this about children. I'm not around them much, so, I wouldn't know. That was the best part of being a child for me--letting my imagination run wild. Great title, too.

Bravo on the commentary AND the image. I happen to agree. Not only do they lack imagination , they cant hold two opposing thoughts in their heads at the same time. Doesnt bode well for the future Im afraid.

Beautiful and thought-provoking, well done! I don't know about other countries, but American culture is certainly different than it used to be. I think there is still plenty of imagination out there, although I agree the impact of tv and games could be stunting the growth of imagination. I believe everyone in this community to be a vehicle for change, one mind at a time. It is a New Year, let's embrace it. Thank you for raising this topic!

Brilliant! Ah what a quandry and an old problem. I have just started look at - soon to read a book called the Education of Henry Adams. One of the Herny Adam's comments that caught my attention to the book is that education essentualy teaches the passive use of knowledge. The book was written ~1910.

Niels, I love it! My gosh the attention to detail, and the time you must have spend on it. It's awesome!! I believe that everyone needs a certain amount of 'quiet time'. I think it's especially important for children. Years ago people didn't have all the 'toy's and distracts that we have today (TV, cell phones, constant music, computer games, even the wonderful computer). People are afraid of being alone or silence. Creativity needs that to grow. Once again a great piece!

I agree 110% Kids these days do not know how to have fun, unless it has batteries or wires coming for the toy. Very moving image my friend! A+ to the teacher!
