Description
I admit it. I'm a little nuts. Sometimes I just throw a simple image out there, sometimes I get a little too particular. . I started with the same sky and water as The Wreck of the Argent Pride and went from there.
Only the signature is postwork on this one. I did three 34 hour renders before I was happy with all the volumetric materials - smoke, flames, splashes, even the wake of the gunship across the water. Learned a lot about how much I can still learn about the DTE in the process. For all its issues, Bryce still is a remarkable program, especially when it comes to the DTE. (Note: Mats, not atmosphere, are volumetric -- its all the mats, lights and reflections that whipped up the render time.)
But enough of that. Vacation's over. Back to work on Monday.
Happy 2009 everyone! May it be better and more prosperous than the last year.

Yeah, the intel was good, the plan was good, we came in clean. All that recon and prep went without a hitch, so you can pat yourself on the back for that.
We even hit our targets; caught them with their suits off. But the damn Marvins got a flight of Falcons up. Yeah, they're old piece of crap fighters, but they're airframes that happen to be capable of space flight. The best we've got are spacecraft with a little bit of airframe in them. The Marauders aren't cut out for Titan. All they've got is ion drives, and the damn things plume out to crap in that much atmosphere -- just a big blue flame that can barely give 'em enough power to stay airborne. Our gunboats aren't much better. Yeah, we got armor and fusions, but not enough. We're still little better than rocks, and don't have the sensors for the soup.
They got our first two Marauders before we cleared the target. The other two never made it halfway across the lake. And Marcie -- uh Dux, didn't stand a chance against a full missile hit.
Before we get into the details, I got two things to say. First, if us Belters think we can fight in an atmosphere, then we'd better build ships for it, 'cause what we got, can't. Second, if you're gonna give us an eighteen meter cannon turret, you'd better be damn sure you design it so we can fire all around, not get blocked for sixty degrees of aft sweep. Idiots.

Sounds like a bitch of a raid for the Belters. Lots to take in here for the viewer. Lots of great eye-candy. Am impressed with the gunship's wake on the water. First thing tht grabbed my eye. Well done, friend!

Yep...this is one cool image alright...excellent fight effects and explosions, and the wake really adds to this!Only thing I'd like to see is a little more light on the lead ship to give it some definition since it is such a flat surface mat...other than that this is an amazing render!

I agree, this is very cool, indeed!

Superb effects on this image! I'm particularly impressed with the explosions, the fire from the background ships and the wake on the water. Very well done!!

Quite impressive what you did with the volumetrics here. I particularly like the explosion, very believable. Excellent work!

Three 34 hour renders?!? You must have a bunch of time on your hands. It shows, though, very good looking image. Great story line, too!

Superb work on multiple levels; a riveting read, a fantastic image, full of intriguing details. As a kid I was a huge fan of the Terran Trade Authority Handbooks, and this reminds me of something in one of them--not derivative in any way at all, just well done and filled with the sort of creativity that marked visual science fiction art in the 1980s. Great stuff!
