This is for Lynell who uploaded an horse drawn steam fire engine yesterday.
This light horse-drawn steam fire engine, made by Shand Mason & company of London was delivered to the Skelmersdale Fire Brigade in June 1910. A 300gmp(gallon per minute) “Double Vertical” model, fitted with a patent variable steam expansion arrangement, a working steam pressure can be raised in 10/15 minutes and two powerful jets of water supplied. The appliance passed to the National Training School, Manchester in 1941, Manchester Fire Brigade(1948-1974) and G.M.C.(Greater Manchester City) Fire service Museum in 1974. The boiler has been maintained continuously and the bodywork was fully restored in 1980. The appliance took part in the Granada T.V. production “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
