Description

The Kirkstone Pass - England Thought I would mention that the Kirkstone Pass is in England as if anyone hasn't ventured that way some find it hard to believe it could be in England. It is actually in Cumbria...home of the Lake District. Standing at an altitude of 1489 feet the road connects either Ambleside or Windermere with Ullswater and the northern lakes depending on which route you take but you have to go through the Kirkstone pass.It is a twisting road that is pretty steep but perfectly passable in good weather but gets a bit more precarious in bad weather. To the lower right you can see the road as it snakes its way through the mountain.Below the distant mountains you can see the lake of Brotherswater in the Hartsop valley. For some unknown reason my wife decided to stay in the car whilst I ventured up to get this shot.As you can see the sun was to my right which made the scene all the more dramatic. After this we headed to the lake and did a pleasant four mile walk as seen in my last submission. Full size view is best Eddie

Words like "stunning" and "magnificent" seem to lose their effect when a shot like this leaves one slack-jawed and wide-eyed. Wow!
