Description

The activity in the backyard was furious at all the feeders this morning. So I grabbed my perch and the camera and outside I went. Temperatures overnight in the twenties had the birds eating for energy to build up their body temperature to stay warm. I took these two shots of one of my feeding stations to show a little of the activity this one set up with thistle for American Gold Finch and Pine Siskin. All the birds in these shots are Gold finch. There was one female Pine Siskin at the birdbath this morning but haven’t seen them on the feeders yet seeing the one may mean that the finch’s will be share their food soon. The acrobatics and activity of the Gold Finch makes them one of the most fun birds to watch in the backyard. Have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by and for your comments all very much appreciated.

What fun!! Very nice capture! I used to love watching the goldfinches on the feeders where I used to live. In our new house, I tried putting feeders up and the sprinkler system got them wet all the time. So now I sprinkle seed along the top bar of the privacy fence each morning and the birds all sit on the fence and chow down. Mostly sparrows, jays and cardinals, but we did have a few goldfinches this morning. I'm going to have to get out there with my camera!

Yep the zoom really does this image justice. Wonderful captures, reminds me to set up some feeders to make the subjects come to me. Don't birds of prey hang around for easy tucker??

Sure they grab a chance for a good feed. I can imagine a sweet sound too.

Fabulous to see this! I have many species at my feeeding stations, but no goldfinch in spite of supplying thistle.

Wow! How lucky you are! I get that many crows and starlings but they or the squirrels chase away the smaller birds unless I am out there! Marvelous captures!!!
