Description

This is a companion piece to "Phobos - 1912". It's the most complex render I've attempted so far. The rocket is a simple V-2 model, and exhaust plume is merely a light sphere. I really spent a lot of time creating a Sepia-like atmosphere and adjusting the anisotropy of the haze to give the sky a lot of texture, although that raised the polygon count to well over 1 million. The lighting uses a spectral model, which up'ed the render times as well (4 hours+ on 2 Duo-core tower). Some diffuse-glow filtering in Photoshop added the final touches on this really fun piece.

You need to make a DVD to go with this spiffy image!;-)) I think the sepia is gorgeous--I think I would have done it as postwork just because I could not have endured a 4 hour render, though!

Thanks, L! Actually I've been playing with alternative versions of this (been learning about different Photoshop filters) and have a really neat ink-stamp and comic-book cover version as well that I'm playing with. Maybe a re-release of "Space Haste!" might be a suitable DVD cover use for this one. ;-)
