Description

I love finding stuff like this to take pictures of. It's not what I do best, but still ... it's quite enjoyable to experience mechanical implements through the lens of a camera. I'm never quite sure what to DO with shots like this. It's much more my style to show you three quarters of the tire, or the way the light hits the edge of one of the parts, or perhaps to show one grass stem and just mention that there was a piece of equipment nearby. ;) So here you go. Ummm ... I think it's a gas-powered tiller. (Notice the small gas tank and the blades in the back.) For those of you who like to know these things, this was taken in August in Chehalis, Washington. And for those of you keeping track of the weather up here, we're having a lovely week of 45 to 50F temperatures, and it's dry and sunny. No more flooding! (Thanks to those of you who have asked and expressed concern.) Hooray!! A welcome change, indeed!

The one time I tried to use this kind of machine, it got away from me. No, I didn't take out the neighbor's daisies, but I sure tore up my own!! Great shot, love the light. (It was 70 here today)

I don't think ever ganna be used again but you find another purpose of it. Great photo subject. Like a burned tall grass around it. I feel "guilty" we have 102F here.

Great image! Unfortuantely, sometime during the early spring I will be using something similar to this so as to prepare an area for a veggie garden.

Love how the long grasses are growing around it. I see things like this often but I don't have the knack to make them look this good, brilliant capture Tara!

The wear on the paint job makes it look like this thing has given long, hard service. It probably does still run just fine...I'm caught by the overall brightness and color in this shot -- an excellent capture!

I love seeing pictures of old implements like this, or old houses that are falling down, and to imagine the joy of the family that bought this new and how proud they were of it. Equally as impressive to me as the tiller is the beautiful grass surrounding it.

Interesting find, a virtual rival to my classic antique autos. As for the terrain, anyone got a scythe?

I don't think you had to do very much with this: Your light captured wonderful bleached reds & beiges & yellows, a nicely aged piece of machinery...but what's equally beautiful is the background: It's a fountain of late fall grasses, whose hues harmonize with the machine's yellows, and make a wonderful sinewy curtain. I think this is very lush, and I love it and am faving it.
