Description

LRDG means Long Range Desert Group. It was a group of soldiers from the Commonwealth, fighting in the desert of Lybia behind Italian and German troops during the WWII. The usual crew for this 1 1/2 ton truck was three men, driver, gunner and commander. Of course these men also had other duties. For instance the commander may be the wireless operator, medical orderly, navigator, fitter (mechanic) and so on. All patrols set out with a wireless (radio) truck. When Lloyd Owen set out for the Tobruk raid, he left with ten vehicles. Surprisingly this truck is only two wheel drive. The 30 CWT , built in Canada, was capable of hauling around one and half tons of supply and weapons. Engine: 80 HP Chevy inline OHC 6 cylinder It was not uncommon for the fitters to carry around 30 jerry cans, or 150 gallons of fuel. 150 gallons equals approximately 900 pounds of fuel. That was enough fuel to get a Chevrolet 30CWT about 1800 miles...

J'ai bien lu 80 chevaux? ça paraît minable pour tracter un tel engin... Evidemment, modèle superbe!

An interesting vehicle as well as the history. I like the way you displayed it with the desert scenery. Very well done.

Another great model and thanks for the history behind it. It must have been some task ratting around the desert in this heavy beast especially as you described only 2 wheel drive.

As usual the modeling and texturing quality is truly outstanding, as well as its integration inside the scene. And the info is quite interesting too!
