Description

The Carolina Chickadee is an awesome and cute little bird. The male and the female look alike and a cool fact about the Chickadee is that in the coldest part of the winter they go into a self imposed state of hypothermia called torpor. They do this to save energy, finding a place to get into for safety they remain in torpor for up to 15 hours. They’re awake during this time but are unresponsive. Its best not to handle them while in torpor because the sock of being handled could kill them. Information found in Wikipedia. Thanks for stopping by and for your comments, hope all has had a great weekend.

Just so cute, even the name of this bird is cute. I wonder who came up with "Chickadee" for a name.

Sharp detail and good composition, I know I always have too many branches in the way. These little fellows never fail to delight me, they are my favorites in my yard.

Awww...this has to be my favorite wild bird...looks just like the Black-capped Chickadees here in NH...someone asked where the word chickadee comes from...I know it is a Native American word...but forgot the meaning. They just always look like they are having SO much fun!
