Description

I don’t often get political, since I was raised in the belief that it was very improper to discuss those sorts of things. However, this year is one of such magnitude that it went against my grain to NOT say something about it. I do not hate George Bush. In fact, I don’t even dislike him. To go even further, if he wasn’t the worst president in history, he seems like a hell of a guy to sit down and just have a beer with (that is if I were of drinking age and liked beer, which I’m not and I don’t). All around, he seems very personable, shy, and boyish in a way that would make him endearing if he didn’t speak for an entire country. I have even managed to find some common ground with him over the years: we’re both Cancers, we both like any spicy Doritos, we enjoy our coffee the same way (or so I’ve heard), and we both have a slap-happy way of making up our own words whenever the mood strikes and getting away with it. To go yet again further on this subject, I also do not approve of people who hate George Bush. After all, no matter how much power a president has, one man cannot bring an entire country down to the ground. That is an administration. Do I hate the administration? Perhaps, but only because I love my country. Do I genuinely like Barack Obama? Yes, though I have yet to decide whether I’ll like him as a president. That choice will be made after seeing the action that he takes. A man is only as great as the things he does, after all. Over the last eight years, I’ve watched a country that I have great pride in and great love for fall to ruins beneath the hands of a corrupt and greedy administration. I have seen a dear friend of mine go off to fight in a war that he has no place in, a war that he is against. But he fights anyway, if only because he believes that the country he loves will return to the way it was so that he can have a true sense of pride in serving it. Partisanship has tainted our view of what this country should be. The beauty of America, to me, is the ability to be able to see America however you want to see America – to have your country be what you need it to be. No matter if you’re gay or straight, black or white, young or old, everyone needs a sense of honour and freedom in the things they do and where they live. In the last eight years, that has been taken away from us little by little, and it is with disdain for the administration, NOT for the country, that my pride as an American has been dulled. If John McCain had become the next president of the United States, I would still be posting this image, because during the campaign the only thing I wanted for my beloved country was a new beginning. A chance to start over, and to flourish, and to become what everyone within her bosom wishes it to be. May today be the end of tyranny, and the beginning of a nation undivided. God Bless America. political-pictures-bush-character.jpg

A powerful image. And words well said, Summer. You have a wisdom far beyond your years. During the Bush years you went from a girl of 11 to a woman of 19, from innocence to knowing. These years have changed an entire nation. There are 3 events that truly popped my cherry. The first was when John Kennedy was assonated, the second when OJ Simpson got away with murder, and the third was when Bush basically stole the presidency. A great man and leader was taken from me, and my belief in justice and our rights as voters was gone forever. With Obama, I have a spark of hope, and feel he will make Americans proud once again. He is an amazing mix of black and white, of intelligence and compassion, and I believe he will unite and help heal our beloved country. CC

I must agree - and disagree - with you. Bush is not a tyrant. If that were so, he would have to be assassinated, overthrown by a coup detat...all violent means. This is not so. I have visited and lived (for a short time)in countries that were ruled by tyrants/oligarchies, those who stole and/or rigged elections. This country is far from that, thank goodness. For now. I do not like the state our country is in. The creep of fascism started before you or I were born; it is making progress. That said, the USA is the finest country in the world, imho. I never said "perfect". If you believe there is a better government/country out there, why aren't you living there? We can still freely leave our country; many people cannot leave theirs. (This was not said in anger or vexation. Please take it strictly as friendly criticism.)

Now we will have the creep of socialism. I don't know why we can't find someone for Prez. who is middle of the road. I'm so sick of politics. I don't think Obama is the answer to our needs and yes I do believe he will lead us farther into the welfare state started by the Democrats years ago. I also don't think he is as bad as others make him out to be. George did what he thought was right, whether you agree or not and then stood by his convictions. At least he doesn't blow where the winds of popular opinion blow. And just for info, the problems we face today, were the result of actions taken late in the last administration before George. So don't put the economics on him. The man you elected and some of the organizations he has worked with deserve that credit. I thought it was funny, that the group who actually caused the problem are now the ones screaming that they can fix it. Oh, well we can only wait and see. History will be kinder to George than the people or press today........

And the cult of personality rears it ugly head. None of you know anything about Obama. He has hidden every part of his past, from his school records, to his law firm's files, to his records as a state senator. We know nothing about the guy. No! We do know what kind of people he associates with. People like Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers. Racists and terrorist murders. I know that makes me feel all warm and cozy.

AH! True wisdom. Actions speak louder than words. Don't listen to what they say. Wait and see what they do. We've seen the past let's see what the future brings.

HERE, HERE! I do so agree with you. Oh and thekingtut, when you say, "the cult of personality rears it ugly head." Are you meaning you? For whenever someone who is not of your mind set comes to office, so does the witch hunt. Ken Starr ring a bell? So to you and your kind I say, Please give it a rest. We have had enough of that kind of talk. I want a country united not divided. We’ve tried your way for the past twenty years. Look were it got us.

Wonderful Image, and commentary. I have to say that George W Bush will be known as the worse president we ever had. Why? He put us in Iraq where we have no business being there. What ever happened to looking for Osama Bin Laden, wasn't that his top priority? Gave big oil massive tax breaks. What about the working people? It's got to be one of the darkest periods for our country when he has to go to the supreme court to win the presidency. Now we have a chance to fix all the damage that we suffered for the last 8 years.

Your image is somewhat strong in my opinion, but you are entitled to it, but I do agree with most of your views. The best to Obama, and to all of us, we so need it. So how does he take his coffee?

Powerful image - far stronger then your words. President Bush would never have gotten to be President if he did not deserve and work for it. The same can be said about President Obama. Times help everyone to forget when they glad that he (President Bush) was in office. I think it’s a blessing that Al Gore did not become President and has championed the world challenge of Global Warming with a great number of others. Fate? Perhaps. Yet would we of had an as impassioned champion for the cause without? It is a warning that the higher you soar the further you can fall. Fear all across this country lead to a great many of the changes that where at first welcomed and today those same oppose - the people of the United States made those changes possible. President Johnson carried forward the policies of President Kennedy and the same people that supported those policies under the one tore them down under the other.

I wish America the best too, because the better it is for you guys the better it will be for the rest of the world. Let me draw you a parallel. Throughout the 80s and 90s, here in the United Kingdom, we had a right wing conservative government led by the likes of Margaret Thatcher. During those times there was terrible damage done to this country and it’s moral. Of course you had Ronald Ray-gun in the USA. We too thought a change would be good. In 1997 we elected Tony Blair. Now listen America, learn the lesson we learned the hard way. Obama is just another Tony Blair, I hope he is not a great promise that didn’t work out. I fear in 8 years he will be just like Mr Blair. I hope he is not. It scares me to know how much hope the Americans are investing in one man. Trust me, we Brits have been there and worn the T Shirt. The important thing for America to remember is NOT who the President is but who is pulling his strings. There is always someone puling the strings.
