“Oh, but surely I’m the one who should be upset here,” Rynard gently scolded the lovely, young chamber maid. “After all, you’re the one who burst in on me while I bathed… without even a knock!” Flustered and shock as she was at the sight of him nude; she was now more afraid of what lord Roland would do if her learned that she had invaded his guest’s privacy like this, even if it was unintentional. “Please,” she begged, “I didn’t mean to... to…” “It’s alright my dear,” he comforted her, as he took her in his arms. She had fallen for his trap, and he knew he had her. She would be his that very night! “Please! If Lord Roland finds out… I don’t know what he’d do to me!” she continued to plead. Although, she found his arms comforting, she felt odd being held by a naked stranger. Even one so handsome, finely built and well favored. She just couldn’t stop her heart from racing, and her face felt so flushed. “Well you’re not going to tell him, are you?” he asked, stepping back to look her in the face, with a warm, reassuring smile. “No! Why would I do that?” she asked, confused by why he thought she would confess her own wrong doing to her lord. “Then, if I don’t tell him, he’ll never know… will he!” he sprang the trap. Just the suggestion that he might tell Lord Roland was enough to fluster her again. “Oh, you wouldn’t tell him, will you? I’d be so grateful! I’m sure I can find a way to make it up to you!” she cooed innocently, totally unaware of how he had manipulated her. Rynard smiled at the lovely young maid… This was all too easy! Stormbringer uses percentage ratings in a wide variety of skills as the basis of its game mechanics. One of those skills is persuade; the skill to convince other to do what you want them to do. Rynard is obviously a true master of this skill, which, in game terms, means he has a rating of over 90%, and his player used it prodigiously to woo every pretty, young thing that he encountered. You’ve got to love a game that has seduction built right into its rules! It’s a real shame the original game, went out of print after the 4th edition was published in 1990. Its name was co-opted in 2001 for the newest version of Chaosium, Inc.’s “improved” version, which was originally published under the name ELRIC!.
