Description
An old, worn drawing of one of the masterpieces of 20th C. architecture: The Robie House, by Frank Lloyd Wright. It's one of hundreds of sketches I did back then, and it's made in inks & wax! Don't ask why 'wax': We played with anything in those days! Note: It's incomplete (thus the blob on the left): But: I loved this house! I did my grad work a block from this house (U. of Chicago) and walked by it everyday: I swear it was like walking by a piece of heaven. Full-view is clearer & better... If you want to see the real thing, google "Robie House": The place is truly exquisite...

I too am a fan of Frank and think you did great here Mark. Your as you say worn drawing to me is so nice and the age has only added character to it. Now you have me wanting to go check this out in depth this weekend.

an impressionistic wonder, Mark. Inks in wax? Why not! I love architecture, too. Thanks for sharing.

to me frank lloyd wright is probably the architect i admire most of all, i have lots of books of his work and i love leafing through them. although i like the internet a lot, it cannot be compared with sitting in a chair with a book. nothing crazy about wachs, mark, there are lots of people painting with coloured wax and i have seen amazingly beautiful works. you got a very good impression of the building despite of the lack of detail (or maybe because of it?) this image got me going, i never make such long comments.

Very interresting and I like the golden paper look.

Wow, I know nothing about architecture, but I know what I like and Frank Lloyd Wright's work blows my socks off. I love your version; I did google the Robie House--wow!! You give it a very special treatment.

I love architecture. It's one of my favorite things, and your sketch of this helps to prove why I like it so much. I wish I had your talent. Kudos.

The colour is very nice and i´m impressed with the way the brush "is running"on the paper...This is fantastic.

Phew...now I can begin commenting again. Seems that the hard days of struggle is over (knock on wood) I stumble reading ink&wax, never heard of that combination before. here it gave an impressionisic sketch that will have me looking up the buiding you talk about. Good work even if old. Hope all is well with you Mark!

That is a fabulous rendition of this beauty. Both views are great and show different things as one studies. It's so "encapsulated". I don't know why I say that but it's like you've preserved it in a very small bottle and it will stand the test of time. I really like it.

superbe !

This is a great drawing Mark, and another wonderful surprise to me. I like the way that you used wax, I suppose if you think about it, that is what many of us first used when we would crayon our books as children, but of course you being an artist tried a different and more interesting approach using wax. I love visiting your gallery as it is so full of interesting and diverse art, fabulous my friend. hugs Jane xx

Fantastic work, Mark. I have a weakness for these old architectural drawings. The colouring brings in a stunning atmosphere. Somehow, it has the feeling of an aquarelle. Very interesting reading, too.+5
