Description
Have been fairly flat out lately with study. However I have had another look at the SciFi Amphibian transport aircraft design that I am working on in Wings 3D.
As I mentioned in the last image posted, I was not happy with the position of the engines, nor the engine pods in general. The engine pods, in the last image, were misshaped and looked like something out of the 1940s. I wanted a more SciFi look.
I redid the wings and tail and mounted the engines on the top surface of the wing, using as a guide the engine layout on the Martin P6M SeaMaster flying boat from the 1950s. The SeaMaster was the fastest flying boat ever built.
My design is not very aerodynamic but wanted a squat fat craft design with transport written all over it, bit like a squashed C130 as a basis.
Just a quick and nasty render in Vue 6 Pro Studio to test the revised concept.
I now have to texture map the design and create a decent texture map. Then if happy with design and if people are interested, I will put it up in Freebies. Given the fact I am flat out with 3rd year uni assignments, this could be in a months or two time.
Thanks to everyone who commented on my last few images.
Enjoy :)

Neat design! From an aeronautics point of view, I'd suggest that you have too much horizontal tail in it. With those canted "butterfly" tailplanes, you probably have enough surface area there that you don't need that horizontal stabilizer on top of the whole. Taking it off make the design a bit cleaner.

Nice work; You could model the engine placement after the Lake Bucaneer Amphib, which is pillar mounted behind the cockpit and remove your horizontal stabilzer, making the tail a true "V" fin configuration. Just a thought. You can find info and pics on the Lake Amphib here: www.lakeamphib.com

lovely creation!

That's pretty cool! I like the new engine shapes. I hadn't noticed the C-130 resemblance until you said it, then my reaction was "Of course!" now it's plain as day. Nice work!

Take your time, this is coming along nicely, and the texturing is all it needs next. I am very impressed with your quick rise to modeling, and unfortunately a lot of the click and render crowd here arent going to appreciate the work put into this, because people know only what they do. Regarding the model, I wouldn't be too concerned about the physical/aerodynamic facets of the aircraft as much as the coolness factor- unless you really want to design a new generation aircraft. Its all about style and this has a lot of it! The connected tailfil is cool, as is the bent design of the wings. I guess if you wanted to go nuts and see what it looked like all curvy, that would be ineresting too- not sure how the tools work in Wings- so I cannot offer any idea there, but if you know how to do it, the result would certainly be interesting to see. In some programs it is called "Metaball" or "meta" something depending on the app.
