Description

BUY THIS CAR!!! Ninety-fifth, and, sorry to say, the very LAST in this series of classic vehicles, captured 9/21/08, at the beautiful Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, held annually at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in much too overpopulated Southern California. For more information on this event, see my posting for 9/28/08. So, this is it, the finale of this glorious seemingly endless series, featuring the last two photos I took at the show. By then I was so dehydrated, discombobulated, disoriented and worn out, partially from the tendinitis pain in my knee, that I failed to record the year and model of this Mercedes. It suggests something in the 1930s to 40s era, and projects a boxy Volkswagen Beetle look, rather unusual for a Mercedes. I poked around Google for over an hour trying to find some info on it, but they had so many different models on display, going all the way back to the Dawn of Man, I just gave up in frustration. Incidentally, I'm not too enthralled with the bottom shot, probably the worst one I took at the show, as far as contrast and lighting are concerned. An added note: if not for God's miraculous and sacred invention, Photoshop, this series would not have been possible. Anyway, before I proceed onto the several other auto/air show pics that have been vegetating in my files, I'm going to give everyone a breather for a while and go back to posting various and sundry other subject matter, e.g., flora, including flowers, trees, bark, bushes; and some vehicles on the street, fences (for Denise), maybe roadkill, etc. Thankx for the visit, and have a faultless, fun-filled Friday.

Judging by the air vents on the side it has a rear engine..maybe VW copied some of its technology.....

Wow, 100% stumped. I've never seen one. Adolph was after a "people's car", maybe this was Mercedes bid for that market. If so, that would make this mid-1930s. I'm off to Kansas City but I'll take a look too. The workmanship looks good on the car. Your photos here are right on the money. OK, I vote for roadkill:)

Actually I like a saturated shot. Yeah, good idea to give some room for a daisies...lol. Like a devotion you put into this auto show series.

Wow.. what a COOL old car!!! And a Mercedes too. It looks a tad bit like a Citroen 2CV more than anything. I bet that is what it was supposed to emulate. The Citroen 2CV was definitely the "people's car" in France, especially in rural areas. I love those vintage European cars. I've got a '72 Opel GT myself, as well as a '70 Datsun 2000 "Fairlady" roadster :-) Great photos. Post some more on here in the near future as I enjoy looking at those cars.. and drooling over them, LOL!

Roadkill? ROADKILL!!!!??!!! Aarghhh! (I actually DO have a shot of a dead crow on the side of the road...) Anyway, whatever year this beautiful car came from, it's a wonderful old lady. Well cared-for and still gorgeous in all its lines (boxy? No, just made before they knew they didn't have to make cars square like wagons!) OK, so bring on the fences, I'm ready!

Well, it's been a long but fabulous series Harry, myself I've enjoyed it. Are you going to this event next year? This Mercedes seems to have some french influences in it. OK, let's bring on the Koi's!

Found some info on this car (wikipedia): it's a type 130 (W23) from 1934. Didn't sell very well and was thus discontinued in 1936. There's no french influence in this car, but from Porsche. That's why it looks a bit like a VW Beetle (which was designed by Porsche).

Great shot, but I have never seen a Mercedes looking like this and I remember them back to 1947 when out physician had a 170. The only vehicle in my little community of 'Freie Scholle' in Berlin-Tegel at the time.
