Description

This collage adds the farm house, circa 1865, and a closer look at the horse barn first seen in yesterday's posting, Afternoon Shadows No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, the barn has assumed a very jaunty tilt on its' south end. The barn construction is post and beam type construction. Many old barns suffered from foundation problems and this barn is no exception. However, thanks to the type of heavy timber frame construction, a barn like this can stand for many, many years with a tilt and still be perfectly usable. This house and barn are still equiped with fully functional lightening rods up on their roofs. Since this subject is proving to be popular, I'll continue to scout out more Kansas barns in the future. I might even slip east across the river into Missouri for a few:) Thanks for stopping by and for all your comments and favorites. Bill :)

Beautiful grouping there, Sir. Vivid colors and wonderful capture of Americana. In my mind, I can see the Lady of the house in her apron calling the hands to dinner. The man of the house in his straw had rubbing his hands together with anticipation of a wonderful meal as he walks out of the barn. Off to the dentist this AM then to SC. Cheers, Skipper

Great shots! I'm with Andrea ... I love that house. Thanks for taking the trouble to show us more of this wonderful place! It's so interesting to see the tilt of the barn, and to know it's still functional in that condition.

What a wonderful collage, Bill. I did think my eyes were playing tricks with me seeing how catty-wompus that barn is. And what a charming farmhouse... I can just see Aunty Em setting some hot apple pie on the window sill to cool. A most charming view of rural life in Kansas... bravo, Bill!

Nice trio Bill, that sure looks unsafe though, but as you have assured us it isn't I'll take that to the bank :).

I love this house and the barn is so exciting. perhaps someone backed into that large door causing the upper frame damage...I like thinking about what might have gone on here and knowing it is still in used is even better. That house is fabulous and I can image waking before dawn to go downstairs and make a big breakfast to start a long, hard day. There was a time I thought the best thing in the world would be to be a farmer's wife.

Stellar everything...POV, clarity, colors, lighting, et al, depicted in this fine collage, Bill! I immediately thought of the Leaning Tower of Pisa when I saw the bottom shot. Is that an underground parking entrance I see?
