Description

This is the the base of a redwood tree. It's in Humboldt Redwoods State Park**, about 20 miles south of me. These trees are some of the biggest in the world; there was one called the "Dyerville Giant" that was estimated to be 1600 years old. Makes you feel just a bit insignificant!! I've included a link to a previous foto with me at the base of this same tree to give you some perspective as so how big it really is. me and the tree **redwoods

Be great to have a person standing by to give a sense of proportion. Would have been tricky if you were by yourself unless you were lugging along a tripod:) I love these old giants. Well done.

Woodsman, spare that tree! Splendid colors and lighting effects in this shot, M! Redwoods are some of the most magnificent and venerable products of nature. I love 'em all!

Whoa! Just looked at the earlier post—that's one big tree! So that big knot in the lower trunk—that's above your head? Amazing! See, I've only seen pictures, I've never 'been' as they say, so I just don't know the scale of these things. You had your dog with you—I wonder if he/she had any clue how big this thing was; like was he thinking, "uhhh...this is a big freakin' tree, Maz!" Nice golden hue, nice dappled light...You live in an amazing area. Giant's the perfect title.
