Description

I feel like an idiot for forgetting to update this story. In mid September, I remembered just when it was that I saw the American Box Turtle mom laying eggs in my yard, and went out to have a look. Unbelievably enough, that was exactly when I saw this little (guy?) emerging (or, having emerged clearly very recently) from his nest. Not good photography, but it was already late in the evening when I got home from work, so lighting was horrid, and my only short lens is the kit 18-55mm EF-S. Timeliness had me finding him while his shell was still soft. After a couple of days of investigating & researching, I found a junior highschool biology class that wanted to adopt him, and off he went. For reference, here's a picture of Mom from a couple of weeks after she covered the nest.
