Blencathra - Lake District
Another image from our day out this week.
Just to the east of the pictureque market town of Keswick is the mountain fell of Blencathra.
Blencathra consists of six separate fell tops the highest standing at 2847 feet high.
The name Blencathra comes from an old Cumbrian term which means "devil's peak" and according to legends was the home of a Celtic god of the underworld whose name is Afallach.
When Blencathra is viewed from the East it gives the impression of the shape like the back of a saddle. This is the reason why Blencathra is also known as Saddlebag
