Description

This is my fifth post of santons. I said that it would be the last, but... as my friend David (dphoadley) commented enthusiastically my previous one "DO give us some more like this", there will be a last one, and, as often said, not the least: The artist! So do not miss him! Then I will come back to comic drawings, which my current profession now. In the first post, "Little santons" (Christmas statues), I explained the historical origin of these Southern France traditional figures. This activity is more than two centuries old. This old peasant woman, like the nativity, the joiner and the card players of my last posts (link below), are of the big variety, which is exquisity detailed. Best viewed full size. All comments welcome. If you have not seen my card players scene, click here:

And the winner is..., for Ledwolorz

Techdata: Nikon D70 with Micro-Nikkor 2.8/60, 1/150s at f/9, available light, aperture priority automatic, tungsten light balance, 1250 ISO. No postwork except wiping the prices with the Corrector and Clone Stamp Tools, which was not done in my last post and requested by some of you. But if you want to know the prices, these big santons are sold on the Christmas market for approx. 45 euros (ca. 60 USD), which is very cheap for a French hand-made art quality... but I give this as a simple indication, I am not the merchant, and prices can vary significantly.

This is very lovely indeed, but to my mind, the old woman carrying the bundle of sticks possesses a lot more character! For some reason, I find her the more captivating of the tow women in your first scene. If you can, upload a render of her, so that we can study her in more detail. And DO keep giving us more of this good work. DPH

These are very interesting characters. Perhaps with the right lighting and placement of figures in association with each other, they could look very life-like.
