This is my fourth post of santons, there will be one more, then I will come back to comic drawings. In the first one, Little santons (Christmas statues), I explained the historical origin of these Southern France traditional figures, the origin of which is more than two centuries old. This joiner, as the nativity and the card players of my last posts, are of the big variety, which is exquisity detailed. Best viewed full size. All comments welcome. Techdata: Nikon D70 with Micro-Nikkor 2.8/60, 1/60s at f/9, available light, aperture priority automatic, tungsten light balance, 1250 ISO. No postwork except a slight color adjustment in Photoshop to match the two pictures.

Très réaliste le santon! J'ai vu, il y a plusieurs années au musée ethnologique de Innsbrück, des villages entiers - en modèles réduits - créés au XIX et au début du XX pour fêter Noël. Les scènes de genres étaient moins précises que celles de certaines crèches ( à cause de l'échelle ) mais c'est d'un intérêt capital pour l'architecture traditionnelle.
