Description

I was off work and went to see if any new birds were in the local raptor rehab center. This is a young red-tailed hawk. The eyes are almost green in sunlight. In fact, the containment area was either bright sunlight or total shadow. I waited for this young bird to move with more than face in the light and took the photo. The whiter feathers out of this cropped view appear so bright as if lit from the inside. I used only a very simple sharpening on this image since it seemed ok as shot.

Dramatic and fierce. A truly outstanding shot and your lighting highlights the best physical aspects. I can only imagine what it is to stand so close and see this in person.

Since I am interested in all forms of flight, it is easy, looking at your photo, to see how a hawk attains high speed in a dive. You've captured the wonderful design of this bird of prey...sleek indeed.
