Description
While I was at the Kennet, I couldn't resist a short walk downstream to photograph Duke Street Bridge.
This has to be one of the oldest bridges in Reading and was, I believe, one of the original seven bridges in the town.
For anyone interested, Reading originated mainly on the Kennet near to its junction with the Thames. The Kennet has several branch streams in the town plus a canalised channel. As the town grew, bridges were needed to join the various parts of the town - seven to be precise. :-)
For many years, Reading was well known for its seven bridges.
These days, however, there are many more and the town has expanded across the Thames as well. Most of the original seven bridges have now either gone or been replaced.

thank you for coming to my gallery, I'm sorry it took a few days to come to yours, but I'm very glad I did (and I'll come back more too). I came to this shot first because I know someone who took several shots of this bridge, though they weren't as fine as this (he's not a serious photographer, just likes to get pictures of places, that's all). This is a very 'massed' capture, the bridge really looms in the center of the shot, and the buildings above it are like a big 'wall' of buildings, very urban, very powerful. And the water below is a nice contrast, and it's kind of muddy & silvery at the same time. I like what I've glanced at here, and I'll be back. You have some very fine shots of urban settings, and other places as well. Very nice work.
