Description

Something I whipped up for the fun of it (a rare treat for me these days). I built this in Strata 3D CX 5 using only native shapes, or drawing things freehand (mostly the "alien" button symbols). I used only textures inside the app, including that odd eagle picture. CONSTRUCTION NOTES: The body was made by creating rounded cubes and nesting them inside each other. I also used this technique for the plug on the data cable. The screen inset was created by setting the properties of the shape to antimater and sinking it into the main body shape. The data cable was created by using a path extrude on a freeform path and a flat disc. The ground is just a flat plane with a rusted metal texture applied and scaled down. The only "different" thing I did was in the texturing of the green buttons. I didn't like anything I had, so I actually applied a green nebula to the shapes, and was very pleased with the results. They actually look alien and glowing, at least to my eyes. My only goal was to create something sci-fi that looked vaguely realistic. I added frame a little bit of post work to the nebula screen area in Photoshop, but the rest is all native Strata work. All in all, I played with this for about five hours, off and on between real work. I was never happy with the screen area -- I'd like it to look more like glass than it does. But otherwise, I had fun making it, and tha's what counts for a "project" like this.

Yes, the global modeling is cool. I like the eagle and the halos.
