Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Ha, I know the exact location of about three siblings of this place. Somebody painted an old house here the same shade of orange as the trim on "your" place in this photo. Somebody down the street about ten doors from my daughter's painted their entire two story house shocking pink! Now, if I had a house in the immediate vicinity, my sense of humor would be gone over that...if you wanted to sell, most of your potential buyers would laugh and leave. On the upside, I remember Moss landing...this color would work there!

My kind of neighborhood too. Bad in San Antonio, I had a little wood frame house with wood carport and I decided to paint it. I was bored with the white paint and black trim that fit so well in the older neighborhood... but the landlord said I had to stick with tradition and I could only paint it black and white. So I did. I painted the house black and painted the trim white. I thought the landlord was going to faint with a heart attack when he saw it. But I sure was proud of the way that house stood out. :-)

Well, somewhere along Highway 1 you made a detour through the Wonderful Land of Oz and came across this gingerbread house. Hansel and Gretel must be somewhere about. Actually, I love it; it displays a strong sense of independence in this politically correct cookie cutter world. Stellar capture, Marilyn!

I love this! I've got metal siding (as I'm sure you remember) and am stuck with beige.

wow, this brought out a lot of comments: stories about where people live, and Bill's been there (and Harry left a great comparison to Oz & Hansel &Gretal)...It's a great looking little house, it must be amazing to drive by places with this intense coloring...and I like the little 'painting' on the wall (a cactus?) and the orange awning under the roof. Nice direct capture, the kind of shot that architecture profs love because it shows a place face-on and vividly. Love the shots you bring back from wherever you go. We don't often see colors like that here...and if you think about it, you started with a vivid road-divider & that wild totem-god, and you ended with places like this. Like the color gods were with you the whole time...

Acadians in Lousiana are noted for their brightly painted houses. Perhaps a few in this neighborhood? This is a fine capture.

Mine too! there was a neighborhood where I grew up, all of the houses looked the same and they were all white. One of the families on JarBrook Rd. had several daughters. The neighbors all complained that they needed peace from the boys knocking on their doors looking for his daughters. Imagine the daughters chagrin when soon after returning from a girls only weekend, they could tell their beaux that they lived in the plaid house on JarBrook Rd.!!
