Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Aren't these also known as succulents? Nothing like a warmed artichoke with some melted butter...Hmmmmm, good. Excellent photo. I haven't seen them growing before but years ago we did drive through Castroville and saw all the signs.

It never occurred to me that there might be FIELDS of artichokes! I bet this looks great when they are all fully grown. A super title too!

(my browser keeps crashing, hope you didn't get 40 ebots!) I can't resist asking if the artichokes smoke cigars, wear fatigues and speak Spanish...(you make "choke" puns, I make Castro puns...) Very nice shot. I've never seen an artichoke field either. From the leaves, they look quite primal, and in rows they have real character. I like the band of reddish brown at the back too. Your California shots always show me things I don't see. It's a big education to me... (and of course I'll spare you the joke about 'Artie' who has major problems with food...about the only artichoke joke I know—though I've got some great ones about avacados, if you send an SASE and 10 grand...)

Oh golly, love artichokes. Was through there a long, long time ago in December when we bought a dozen good-sized 'chokes for a dollar. You bring back good memories, even of the fog.

I love the flowers they produce. Not so much the "fruit" as they are just too time consuming for me to break into. But if someone else prepares them, I'm the first one at the table. :-) Great shot.

The hedgerows of Normandy. Great POV of the rows, but the artichokes themselves -- one of my favorite veggies -- are a bit difficult to distinguish among the greenery. Nice shot though.

Who knew that artichokes didn't grow on trees. I learn something new every day at RR. Don't forget to go back when they flower. Dana P
