Description

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. It's a bit rainy and gloomy where I live today and I am sick at home with a bad head cold. So, I decided to leaf through my photo archives and I found this image which I took about two years ago. The photo looks west from the eastern edge of Toronto's downtown core at the intersection of King and Queen Streets (left and right respectively). In the distance, dominating the Toronto skyline is the World's tallest free standing structure - The C.N. Tower. Seemingly along side but much closer are the monolithic block towers of Toronto's financial district. Still closer at hand are the old squat mixed commercial buildings of what is now called the Distillery District. And in the foreground is the junction where the King and Queen streetcar lines (Routes 504 and 501 respectively) briefly merge onto the same trackage before crossing the Don River further east. After crossing the Don, the King Line will curve north at Broadview Avenue and head to the Broadview subway station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. The Queen Line will carry on straight and head to the Beaches District and Neville Park. On the left is TTC CLRV 4193 having just curved onto King Street and is now heading westbound on the King Line. On the right, you can just make out two streetcars on the Queen Line moving in opposite directions. The eastbound streetcar (an ALRV), is currently stopped to pick up a passenger. NOTE: TTC: Toronto Transit Commission CLRV: Canadian Light Rail Vehicle ALRV: Articulated Light Rail Vehicle

"Only pay for what you use"... Pictures like this make me realise how small my country is. It's pretty weird to sort of look at this and realise how big and rich Canada actually is. Yes I "knew" that Toronto is a big city, but it literally really dwarfs all the Scandinavian cities. This is like a picture from a different planet (for me).

Muito lindo, me lembra as bonitas cidades que tinhamos antes dado " caos de urbanismo" que as vem matando e poluindo. Magnifica captura, aplausos (5)

Sorry to hear about your cold, though I for one am glad we got rain instead of snow. Hey, I can see my work from here! (Or at least the office tower that looms over it...)

Great shot! I love the suspended cables for the trams...they add so much to the skyline in so many unexpected ways. The light and colors are beautiful and crisp. Fantastic work, it captures the energy and movement of the city. Great work!
