Description
This is the Sheldonian Theatre which was built in 1664-8.
It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) and funded by a donation from Gilbert Sheldon (1598-1677) who it is named after.
It was built to provide an appropriate venue for the principal meetings and public ceremonies of the University of Oxford, and is still used for this purpose today.
