That's right! U.S. President Ronald Reagan's favorite candy was jelly beans. He began eating jelly beans in the 1960s when he gave up smoking and kept up the habit the rest of his life. While Reagan was President, he kept a crystal jar full of jelly beans in the Oval Office and often passed them out during Cabinet meetings. He once told reporters, "You can tell a lot about a fella's character by whether he picks out all of one color or just grabs a handful." A portrait of Ronald Reagan made of 10,000 jelly beans hangs in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

nice capture, you got it head on, and you got all the colors & variations. Not easy to do in a museum...I don't know what you know about this, so excuse me if I tell you what you already know...but In the art world, there are whole fields of expertise on conserving & preserving art, since nearly every art medium is subject to decay. If it's hard to preserve oils or acrylics or watercolors, I can't imagine how hard it is to preserve jelly beans! Talk about something prone to attack—ie. from bugs, microorganisms, just plain melting! Man, I wouldn't wanna be the conservator team on that thing! It's a fine piece of jelly bean art (I mean that, it's not an easy medium to work with!) and you captured it quite well. And thanks for the history of the jbean. Honestly, I never knew any of that! One of the things that makes your gallery a real pleasure...Hope you're doing well, Lynell! (How did Reagan avoid humongous dental bills? All those jelly beans? I can't even think about it...)

I remember Ronald Reagan enjoying jelly beans. My dad eats them all the time. He has them in a glass container and takes a handful at a time.

I remember the jelly beans. During those years they served them at conferences. I actually got to like the white ones and the black ones, but would just take a few random ones because I knew he said that. Interesting portrait and capture.
