Description
Shearwater International Airshow, late 1990's. Wandered a bit off from the "show" and found a couple of "wallflowers".
This one being an Avro Canada CF-100 all-weather interceptor. Probably a Mk.4, but possibly a Mk.5 (these had a radome that was more blunt than on previous marks.). These served along side F-89 Scorpions in NORAD service, and also worked in Europe as part of the RCAF NATO contingent. Belgium was the only foreign buyer, equiping two squadrons I believe.
Primary armament was a "chin pack" of 50 cal machine guns (possibly 8 I think), located just aft of the cockpit. The wing tip hardpoints carried rocker pods for use against hostile bomber formations, or fuel drop tanks.
First flown around 1950, these were intended to be replaced by the CF-105 Arrow. Of course that never happened, and these served until the early/mid '80s in a varienty of roles, including EW.
The official name was the "Canuck", but crew affectionately referred to it as the "Clunk". It was big, heavy & solid.
This one looks abandoned at first glance. The engines have been removed and covers put in place. However the markings are relatively crisp & fresh, so it's probably a restoration in progress for the local aviation museum.

Haven't seen one of these before...thanks for posting it. Hope you'll do more as the airshow season approaches in a couple of months.

I had a model of this plane when I was a kid.(Aurora kit, I think.) Another fine capture of a little known plane. Too bad the CF 105 never made it past prototype. Too expensive and advanced for its time?
